Antique 1804 English Georgian Sterling Silver Meat Skewer Letter Opener

Description

Presented is a great Georgian sterling silver meat skewer made in 1804 by William Eley I, a London silversmith. The skewer is in the form of a tapered silver rod with a ring bored in the top. At the top is engraved a crest of an armored arm holding a sword rising up out a field. This will make a very interesting letter opener.
The skewer is marked on the back with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for London, the duty mark of King George III's head, the date letter I for 1804 and the initials WE for William Eley.
The skewer is in excellent condition. There is surface wear you would expect from 200+ year old meat skewer that was definitely used. The tip is slightly bent, as can be seen in the photographs, not that this affects its use as a meat skewer or letter opener in any way. There are no breaks, no dents, no splits, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The skewer measures approximately 12 1/8 inches long.
The skewer weighs 75.1 grams or 2.64 ounces.
